Special Lecture Held on Premchand Jayanti at Hindi University, West Bengal

Howrah, July 31, 2026 : Hindi University, West Bengal organized a special lecture on the occasion of Premchand Jayanti today. The program was chaired by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Professor Nandini Sahu.

The keynote speaker was Professor Jitendra Srivastava, Head of the Department of Hindi and Registrar, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. The session was compered by Dr. Rekha Kumari Tripathi.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Nandini Sahu said – “Munshi Premchand’s literature is still completely relevant in the present era. The socio-economic disparities, exploitation of farmers, corruption, caste discrimination and oppression of women portrayed in his stories and novels continue to exist even today.”

In his lecture, Prof. Jitendra Srivastava remarked – “Premchand’s humanism and his voice against exploitation remain the greatest guiding force for literature, society, and the common people.”

Dr. Rekha Kumari Tripathi, while conducting the program, stated – “Premchand’s relevance persists even in contemporary times. He was not only the ‘Emperor of Novels’ but also a true healer of society. In this age of globalization and market forces, his realistic vision continues to inspire introspection.”

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Tripathi to all the guests, faculty members, and students. A large number of students and teachers attended the lecture.
