National Doctors’ Day Celebrated with Grandeur at Jawaharlal Nehru Vidyapith

Kolkata, July 1, 2026: ‘National Doctors’ Day’ was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Jawaharlal Nehru Vidyapith (Boys’) High School, Khidirpur, on Wednesday.

 

The programme was organized in memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the second Chief Minister of West Bengal and Bharat Ratna awardee. Notably, he was born on July 1, 1882, and passed away on July 1, 1962. The Government of India declared July 1 as ‘National Doctors’ Day’ in the year 1991. The objective of this day is to express gratitude to doctors who serve patients and to highlight the importance of physicians in society.

 

The programme began with Headmistress Smt. Madhurima Chandra offering floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Roy. Following this, teacher Shashwati Mukherjee informed students about Dr. Roy’s life, his medical contributions, and his work as Chief Minister. She also emphasized the selfless service and importance of doctors in society.

 

Teachers Kaushik Sadhukhan, Niteshwar Choudhury, Suman Kumar Das, Sunita Raut, Shameena Hasan, Md. Ibrahim, Girijesh Sharma, and Vinod Yadav made special contributions to the success of the event.
